Our Story

Great People. Sound Values. Strong Foundation.

Let us introduce you to the town where Trusted Community Banking started – Iva, South Carolina. Dr. Evans, a respected pharmacist at the Iva Drug Store, knew this was a service the community needed so he ventured into starting another business that could serve and benefit the good people he knew so well. So, he got together with some of the other town leaders to turn his dream of opening a community bank into a reality. While most banks at the time had lofty, important-sounding titles, the group of partners decided this new bank’s name should embrace their local citizens. In 1951, The Peoples Bank (originally chartered as The Peoples Bank of Iva) opened its doors for business—with Dr. Evans serving as president.

Their goals were simple: to provide a place where friends and neighbors could safely keep their money, where folks could earn income on investments, and where local people and businesses could secure funding for their future. It was all about serving the people who shared their daily life at the grocery store, in church, or just down the block. The Peoples Bank became a trusted treasure in Iva, and eventually moved into the town’s renovated post office building in 1965. Only eleven years later, as services and customers increased, they constructed a new Main Office building in the heart of downtown.

The next logical step was to expand into more local communities throughout Anderson and the surrounding areas, with each of its seven branches offering the same exceptional, small-town service. Everything about The Peoples Bank is local—its founding, ownership, and daily operation. Our mission remains unchanged—to provide reliable banking services to friends, neighbors, families, and businesses in Anderson and surrounding communities. That great idea more than 70 years ago still thrives today, as The Peoples Bank continues to embody the values of Trusted Community Banking.
